How to Prepare Your Baby for a Photo Session: Essential Tips

Updated: Oct 18, 2024

Preparing for a baby photo session can be both exciting and a little daunting. To ensure everything goes smoothly and you get the beautiful photos you’re hoping for, here are some helpful tips to keep in mind:

  1. Keep Your Baby Awake Before the Session

Try to keep your baby awake at least 30 minutes before you head to the studio. Avoid letting them nap in the car; instead, engage with them through play or other activities to help them stay alert and ready for the session.

  2. Time the Feeding Right

We are going to feed baby upon arriving at the studio. This will help keep them content and less likely to fuss during the session.

  3. Avoid Lotions and Oils

On the day of the session, refrain from using lotions or oils on your baby. This will help ensure that their skin looks smooth and free of any unwanted residue in the photos.

  4. Coordinate with Toddlers

We do the family session first. After the family photo session is over, it is advisable for siblings to head home as babies are highly sensitive to noise. Toddlers tend to be quite energetic, which could disrupt the baby's tranquility. To ensure their safety and prevent any accidents, it’s important to supervise them closely. We offer toys, and access to YouTube and Netflix to keep them entertained.

  5. Pack Extra Milk

Bring extra milk to keep your baby comfortable and satisfied throughout the session.

  6. Include a Security Blanket

Bring along your baby’s security blanket. Familiar items can provide comfort and help settle your baby during the session.

  7. Have a Pacifier Handy

As a last resort, a dummy or pacifier can be useful for soothing your baby, so don’t forget to bring one. If you don't have one, we have new sterilized pacifier at the studio.

  8. Dress in Loose Layers

The studio can get quite warm, so wear loose layers to ensure you’re comfortable. This also makes it easier to adjust to changing temperatures.

  9. Expect a Lengthy Session

Be prepared for the session to last up to four hours. Much of this time will be spent settling your baby, rather than actively taking photos.

  10. Patience is Key

Understand that settling your baby will take time. Our primary focus is to ensure your baby is calm and comfortable to capture the best possible images.

By following these tips, you’ll help create a more enjoyable and successful photo session for both you and your baby. We look forward to capturing these precious moments for you!
